I have drawn so many of these at this point. They are an excellent way to get some practice in without commiting to a larger work. Really good to experiment with. I collected these back in the late 90’s and still have a collection. I don’t really do gaming cards like Wizards of The Coast, but I did love top trumps, needless to say the horror sets where always my favourite. Perfect for me and my brother on any holiday trip!
A few years ago , I decided I would try and draw 50 cards in 50 consecutive days. This became the Sketchcards of Doom project and posted a timelapse video of each creation . Some are a lot better than others. I ran out of ideas, time and just being plain old knackered. I perservered and got them finished . The reaction was great and I even sold some and got some commissions ( always welcome!) I use a mix of markers, micron pens, ink and pencil crayon. Some I have collaged and I hope to try these again. In 2023 I did a series of skulls for Inktober ( skulltober) and gave them away to a follower. Not as accomplished as the normal cards, but still a great way to experiment. Thats what it’s all about! I have done some for Marvel ( yes, that one), but never heard from them or if they ever got used. ( I never got paid by them, thats for sure!!)
If you check out my instagram you can see more and I do keep making them because they are fun. I’m in the early planning stages of making a top trumps style set, just need to figure out some details. I keep sketching simple ideas and then i will spend an hour just pencilling some cards, usually about 20 . I will then put them to one side and start colouring and inking them between projects. Give it a go, you will be amazed with what you can do in such a small place.

And here is a video of the original Sketch Cards of Doom :
Anyway, there you go. Enjoy!

Come on , you know these rules by now!
1. They are not real, so draw them any damn way you want.
2. Forget stuff like anatomy. Who cares.
3. Use any tool and as many as you like as long as it makes an unholy mess.
4. Most importantly, have some bloody great fun!
Have you considered designing games with your cards. You're art really reminds me of Shadi Torbey who designed the oniverse games. You should try one of them
These are great!👍
